Packing Tips for Moving

These seven easy tips will get you ready to pack with a vengeance.

1. Don’t Procrastinate

Don’t delay. Packing seems easy, but it’s difficult. Start packing your stuff a few weeks prior to your move. Begin with least essential items that you don’t need in your day-to-day routine. Packing earlier means you’ll be more organized and the job will not be hectic.

2. Pack room-by-room

Focus on packing one room at a time. Moreover, don’t mix items of one room with others. Use different boxes for different rooms. Wrap your kid’s knickknacks and other small items in bright color tissue papers to avoid the risk of being lost or mistakenly thrown out with waste stuff.

3. Packing Labels

Label each and every box clearly. Write a general description of the contents and the room name on the top and each side of each box. You can also use different colored markers for each room. It will offer better clarity to you and your movers. You should personally transport your legal documents, heirlooms, and other important papers and valuables etc.

4. Use Packing Paper

Avoid using newspapers to pack your items. The regular newspaper may bleed ink onto your belongings. Prefer to wrap all your items with white packing paper.

5. Stick with Moving Boxes

Use boxes designed for moving to pack all your household stiff. Boxes obtained from grocery or liquor stores might not hold the weight of the items that you will be putting in them.

6. Know what you can’t pack

This is really important. There are some items that you can’t ship as they are hazardous. Keep this in mind and see what you can’t pack. Here are some of the things that you must avoid packing:
  • Aerosols
  • Ammunition and guns
  • Charcoal
  • Cleansers containing bleach or ammonia
  • Fertilizer
  • Lighter fluid
  • Nail polish remover
  • Oil or gas of any sort
  • Paint cans
  • Pesticides and poisons

These are some of the tips that can make your packing easier if you follow them. Moreover, you can hire long distance movers in Dallas, who can help you with packing too.
