6 Tips for Packing And Unpacking Long Distance Movers

Moving is exhausting. When you make a shift, you’ve to take care of many things – from changing your address on all your important accounts to figuring out which furniture will fit in your new place.  It can easily get overwhelming, and one thing that happens to everyone is that time speeds up!  Here are some packing and unpacking tips for long distance movers that can ease your move efforts.

1. Schedule Plenty of Packing Time
Start the packing process at least several weeks before moving day. Packing takes more time than you think it’s necessary, especially you’re doing in an organized manner. Packing a small area usually take hours when you get into sorting items, determining what stuff you want to keep, and which thing to pack where.

2. Pack the most usable items in the last
Start your packing with the stuff that is least required in the home.  Items such as books, spare linens, and ornaments are not needed for a while, so pack these things first. Packing them ahead of a time is a great idea to start your packing with.

3. Label your boxes properly
Labeling boxes properly will ease your unpacking process. Label your boxes according to the room they belong to. Make sure to mark the important boxes so you know from where to begin during unpacking. Don’t forget to mark both sides of your boxes to avoid any type of confusion.

4. Pack heavier stuff in smaller boxes
Most of the people use large boxes to pack their heavy stuff. As heavy boxes have a tendency to consume more things and they end up being overweight. Overweight boxes mean more efforts are required to move boxes from one place to another. So make sure that you pack your heavy stuff in smaller boxes so that it doesn’t get difficult to move boxes. Fill large boxes with lighter items. In this way, your boxes will last longer and will be easier to move.

5. Be Prepared with Bedding
Pack a different box that includes a clean set of linens, pillows, and pillow cases for each bedroom where everyone is going to sleep on that first night. This will ease your first night in your new home after a long journey.

6. Take a Photo of Your TV Set-up
This step will prevent frustration. Before packing your TV and other equipment, make sure to take a few good photographs of the wires they’re connected before disconnecting. These photographs can help you set up your equipment in your new home. Once all the wires are disconnected, place each unit in a big ziplock bag and mark it properly, then pack all your zip lock bags together in a box.
